Events are usually a large piece of the fundraising puzzle for nonprofits. They enable nonprofit organizations to increase community visibility, receive large donations sums, and network with influential people in the community all in one place. Event marketing is one of the services I offer to my clients: creating press kits and releases, coordinating with the media and community partners to maximize visibility, and event photography and videography. When it comes to photography, most of the events I shoot are dimly lit galas, where most of the event is comprised of dinner and a presentation, so shooting outdoors on a beautifully set golf course was so exciting.
The day started out beautifully, even though the temperatures set a record high in Greenville, South Carolina for that day. The FOREver Home Charity Classic was hosted by the Preserve at Verdae to benefit United Housing Connections; a local nonprofit working to make homelessness brief and rare in the Upstate of South Carolina. While homelessness is a recognized issue across the country, the severity of the situation in the Upstate is dire. According to the 2018 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, the Upstate of South Carolina had the highest concentration of homeless individuals in the state of South Carolina.
Every year, United Housing Connections holds a charity golf tournament to raise money to fund their numerous properties that help close the gap between available housing and our homeless population. This was my second year photographing the event, capturing the partnerships between United Housing Connections and the individuals and businesses that care enough about our most vulnerable population to turn their compassion into action. As I went from hole to hole with one of the event volunteers, I was able to capture moments from teeing off to teams posing for a group photo.
Photography is more than just a keepsake to remember the event; it serves as a valuable marketing tool to engage your audience and increase visibility. With great event photos, sponsors, volunteers, board, and attendees share the photos with their own following, and make for valuable content for digital and print advertising in the future.
